Fulham Palace Pharmacy

How your yellow fever vaccination visit works

Our pharmacy has protected thousands of travellers from Fulham, Battersea, Putney, Hammersmith and Chelsea since becoming a designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

You complete a short pre vaccination checklist so we confirm the vaccine is safe and necessary for your destination, as required by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

Our pharmacist administers a single dose in the upper arm, issues the International Certificate of Vaccination and records it securely, giving you lifelong proof recognised at borders worldwide.

Who should consider vaccination

Most travellers aged nine months and older need protection if visiting yellow fever risk areas or nations demanding an entry certificate.

  • Travellers to Central or West Africa
  • Visitors to parts of South America or the Caribbean
  • Occupational staff such as aid workers and researchers
  • Residents transiting through risk zones for over twelve hours

When to schedule your appointment

Book at least ten days before departure so the certificate becomes valid for border control checks.

  • Same‑week slots available for last‑minute trips
  • Bring previous immunisation records for review

What Our Patients Say

I booked on Friday night and had the jab Saturday morning. The pharmacist explained everything clearly and I left with my certificate in minutes. Ideal service before my Ghana trip.

Booked my parents aged 65 and 70. Extra checks done for their age and clear advice on risks. Grateful for the careful approach.

Staff helped complete all forms and even suggested malaria tablets for a later stop in Kenya.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fulham Palace Pharmacy
  • Do I really need the vaccine for my trip?

Some countries demand the International Certificate on arrival. Others list the vaccine as strongly advised when mosquitoes transmit the virus. Check official advice or ask us to confirm current entry rules. Most travellers choose vaccination both to meet regulations and to avoid a potentially fatal infection for which no treatment exists. The single dose gives lifelong immunity, making it a sensible one‑time investment. If your destination carries no risk and requires no certificate, we will explain your options honestly so you can make an informed decision.

  • Is the vaccine safe for everyone?

The vaccine is live but safe for healthy people aged nine months to 59 years. People older than 60 or those with weakened immunity need an individual assessment. Pregnant travellers usually delay vaccination unless risk is high. We use a pre vaccination checklist to rule out contraindications such as severe egg allergy or thymus gland disorders. Your medical history is reviewed confidentially and any concerns are discussed before proceeding.

  • How long does the appointment take?

Plan for 20 minutes. Ten minutes cover the checklist and informed consent. The injection itself takes seconds, followed by observation and certificate completion. You leave with written aftercare advice. If you book additional travel vaccines, allow extra time for consultation and administration so we can run through each vaccine schedule fully.

  • What side effects might I notice?

Most people feel fine. Up to one in three experience mild headache, low‑grade fever or arm soreness for two days. Severe reactions are extremely rare. We explain warning signs such as high fever or jaundice and provide our twenty‑four‑hour contact number. Prompt medical assessment is advised if unusual symptoms appear. Paracetamol and rest usually ease discomfort. Avoid strenuous exercise the same evening to lessen arm pain.

  • Does the certificate ever expire?

Since July 2016 the World Health Organisation recognises certificates as valid for life, removing the old ten‑year booster rule. Some travellers vaccinated in infancy or while immunocompromised may still need a second dose. We review your records against current Public Health England guidance to advise correctly. Keep your booklet safe and store a digital image in your phone should officials request proof during transit.

  • Can I have other vaccines at the same visit?

Yes. Yellow fever can be given with most travel vaccines in different limbs. We often combine typhoid, hepatitis A or rabies to save time. Your schedule is planned to minimise injections per visit while ensuring adequate spacing where required. We check any previous doses to avoid duplication.
