How does this Typhoid Vaccination work?
Our pharmacist checks your itinerary and medical history, then offers the injectable Vi polysaccharide vaccine. The jab is recommended at least four weeks before departure to give your immune system time to respond. nhs.uk
Protection lasts about three years. A booster is advised if you remain at risk, such as frequent travel to South Asia or parts of Africa. nhs.uk
During the consultation you receive routine travel health tips on safe food, water and hand washing. Advice follows UK Health Security Agency guidance and World Health Organization updates on typhoid and other enteric diseases.
When should you get vaccinated?
The NHS advises arranging travel vaccines six to eight weeks before departure because some courses need several doses. Typhoid can be given closer to travel if necessary, but earlier is better.

If you plan to visit areas where sanitation is unreliable, such as parts of South Asia, Africa or Latin America, vaccination is strongly advised. Most UK typhoid cases occur in travellers returning from Pakistan, Bangladesh or India. The jab lowers your chance of serious illness, but you should still practise food and water precautions.
Aim for four weeks before departure to allow full immune response. If your trip is sooner, we can still vaccinate; some protection is better than none.
