The MenACWY vaccine protects you against four types of meningococcal bacteria groups A, C, W and Y. It trains your immune system to recognise and fight these infections before they cause serious illness. The vaccine does not contain live bacteria and cannot give you meningitis or sepsis. It is offered free on the NHS to teenagers and young adults up to age 25.
You should have the vaccine if you are aged 13 to 25 and missed it at school. It is also recommended before travel to areas with high meningococcal risk, or for certain medical conditions such as a damaged spleen. Speak with our nurse if you are outside these groups and want protection.
