How our MenB service works

Our MenB clinic at Fulham Palace Pharmacy has protected many local families with safe, NHS-approved vaccination. We start with a private consultation. A nurse reviews your child’s health record and explains the three-dose schedule.

The first two doses align with routine infant immunisations at eight and sixteen weeks. The final booster follows on or after the first birthday. Each injection takes seconds. You rest under observation for ten minutes. We send text reminders to keep you on schedule.

Why infant MenB vaccination matters

Bacterial meningitis B can develop rapidly and become serious within hours. Vaccination prepares your child’s immune system to fight infection before exposure.

  • MenB is leading cause of bacterial meningitis in UK infants
  • Booster at one year maximises protection
  • Fever is common; paracetamol reduces symptoms

Tips for a smooth vaccination visit

Preparation helps you and your child feel at ease. Follow these simple steps:

  • Dress your child in short‐sleeved clothing
  • Offer a drink and snack beforehand
  • Bring any records of past reactions

Booking online was simple. The nurse explained each step clearly. My baby barely cried and I felt supported throughout.

Parham did an excellent job with my child’s vaccine! My 4 year old, terrified before, said it didn’t hurt a bit and he even got a lolly after ✅.

Had an amazing experience at this pharmacy as always! They are so helpful and always take time to explain things to me.

They guided me through the infant schedule and reminded me when doses were due. Friendly staff and efficient appointments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fulham Palace Pharmacy
  • What is the MenB vaccine?

The MenB vaccine protects against meningococcal group B bacteria that cause meningitis and sepsis. It uses harmless bacterial proteins to train your child’s immune system. The vaccine is offered free on the NHS at 8 weeks, 16 weeks and 1 year. It does not contain live bacteria and cannot cause meningitis or septicaemia.

  • Who should receive the MenB vaccine?

All infants in the UK are offered the MenB vaccine at 8, 16 weeks and 1 year old. If your child missed a dose, you can still catch up up to their first birthday. The schedule ensures protection when infants face highest risk of serious infection. Speak with us if your child is outside this age range and you wish to arrange private vaccination.

  • How many doses does my child need?

Your child needs three doses. The first at 8 weeks, second at 16 weeks and booster on or after their first birthday. This 2+1 schedule ensures strong, lasting immunity. We send reminders for each appointment to help you complete the course on time and achieve full protection.

  • Are there side effects of MenB vaccine?

Most infants experience mild reactions such as redness or swelling at the injection site, or a mild fever. NHS guidance recommends giving infant paracetamol soon after vaccination to reduce fever and discomfort. Serious reactions are extremely rare. Our nurse monitors your child for ten minutes after each dose to ensure they are well.

  • Can adults receive the MenB vaccine?

The MenB vaccine is primarily for infants. Adults may be offered it in special circumstances, such as during an outbreak or for certain medical conditions. If you believe your family requires private adult vaccination, speak with our pharmacist for advice and availability.

  • What if we miss a scheduled dose?

If your child misses a dose, contact us to reschedule as soon as possible. Catch-up vaccination can continue up to the first birthday. The booster remains effective even if delayed. Completing all three doses ensures the best possible protection for your child.

  • How do I book my child’s MenB vaccination?

You can book online on our website, call the pharmacy, or visit in person. We offer weekday and weekend appointments. After booking, you receive confirmation and reminders by text. Arrive at your slot with your child’s red book for a swift, private consultation.
