Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio Vaccine

How does this service work?

We begin with a brief health screening to check your suitability. You’ll be asked about past vaccinations, allergies and current health-conditions.

Our pharmacist administers a single intramuscular injection into the upper arm. You’ll rest for 15 minutes under observation to ensure you’re well.

We update your NHS or private vaccine record immediately. You leave with tailored advice on side-effects and future boosters.

This process follows the NHS protocol for the Td/IPV booster, which is routinely given to teenagers and adults needing a top-up after 10 years.

Essential Advice for Your Jab

Your initial childhood series builds immunity. Protection wanes after a decade. A booster renews your defence against diphtheria, tetanus and polio.

Preparing for your appointment

Before your visit:

  • Check your last vaccination date
  • Bring any record or NHS red book
  • Wear loose clothing for easy arm access
  • Mention any recent illnesses or reactions

My son was nervous, but the team was fantastic. He barely felt the jab and got a lolly afterwards. Great service.

The DTP jab guards against three bacterial diseases. Diphtheria strains the throat and heart. Tetanus causes muscle spasms and lockjaw. Polio can lead to paralysis. This combined vaccine renews your defence if you had your last dose over ten years ago.

Anyone aged 14 or over who had their last diphtheria, tetanus or polio injection more than ten years ago. Also travellers heading to regions with polio risk. Children missing school boosters can be vaccinated from age ten under a PGD.

Yes. Pharmacists follow a Patient Group Direction approved by NHS England. They undergo specific training in immunisation technique. Observation for 15 minutes ensures prompt response to any rare reactions.

Plan for 20 minutes. Screening and consent take around five minutes. The injection is quick. Fifteen minutes of post-vaccination observation is required for your safety.

This booster is not routinely given during pregnancy. You should discuss your needs with your GP or obstetric team to choose the safest option for you and your baby.

You may feel soreness, redness or mild swelling at the injection site for 24 hours. A low-grade fever or tiredness can occur. These pass quickly. Paracetamol eases discomfort.

Immunity builds over two to three weeks. You should avoid heavy exercise on the injection day. After that, you’re shielded against diphtheria, tetanus and polio.
