How does this service work?

Chlamydia often hides without symptoms. Undetected it can scar fertility and increase ectopic pregnancy risk. Fulham Palace Pharmacy gives you fast answers and treatment in one place.

Your confidential consultation takes 20 minutes. You complete a short risk form and provide either a urine sample or a self‑taken swab. Samples go to an accredited laboratory the same afternoon.

Results arrive by secure text within two working days. If positive, return for free antibiotic supply under our authorised Patient Group Direction. Adults sixteen and over receive either:

  • Azithromycin one gram taken once with water
  • Doxycycline one hundred milligrams twice daily for seven days if you prefer or if azithromycin is unsuitable

We counsel on correct timing with food, possible stomach upset, and the need to avoid sex for seven days after pills finish. A written partner notification slip helps partners access treatment quickly.

Side effects are usually mild: nausea, loose stools, or sun sensitivity are most reported. Tell us if severe diarrhoea, rash, or visual change appears. We advise adding condoms while antibiotics run to prevent reinfection.

Follow up testing is recommended after three months for anyone under twenty five. We set a reminder card before you leave. All records remain private and, with your consent, we update your GP to keep files complete.

Every visit ends with clear safer‑sex tips: regular testing, correct condom storage, and limiting partners reduce future risk. Free condoms are available on request.

Single dose or seven days?

Azithromycin suits those who value one‑and‑done dosing. Swallow four 250 mg tablets at once with water. No alcohol limit. Avoid taking antacids within two hours.

Doxycycline needs twice daily commitment for seven days. Take with food and plenty of water while sitting upright. Apply high‑factor sunscreen outdoors to reduce sunburn risk.

Test again to stay clear

Re‑testing catches reinfection early. Under twenty fives should test after three months. Anyone with a new partner or symptoms should test sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fulham Palace Pharmacy
  • Who can use this service?

Anyone sixteen or older living, working, or studying in Fulham, Kensington, Battersea, Putney, Hammersmith, or Chelsea can attend. You must be symptom free or have mild symptoms only. Pregnant, breastfeeding, or severely unwell individuals need specialist care. Partners of confirmed cases also qualify for immediate antibiotics. Bring photo ID and arrive hydrated to provide a urine sample.

  • Is the service free?

Yes. Testing, counselling, and antibiotic supply are funded by the NHS when criteria in the PGD are met. If you require a brand outside the PGD or decline partner notification, a private fee may apply. Costs are discussed before any charge is made.

  • How accurate is the test?

Nucleic acid amplification tests detect over 97 per cent of infections. Collect the first urine of the day or do not urinate for one hour before sampling for best accuracy. Self‑taken vaginal swabs are equally reliable when instructions are followed carefully.

  • What should I do before the test?

Avoid urinating for at least one hour. Do not clean the genital area with antiseptic wipes beforehand. Bring a list of current medicines and any allergy details. No fasting is required.

  • How soon can I have sex again?

Avoid all sexual contact, including oral sex, until seven full days after you and your partner finish treatment. This break prevents ping‑pong reinfection and protects others. Use condoms consistently afterwards and test again in three months.

  • What if I vomit after azithromycin?

If you vomit within three hours, return for another dose, supplied free under the PGD. Vomiting later than three hours usually means enough medicine has absorbed. Drink small sips of water, avoid heavy meals, and contact us if unsure.

  • Can alcohol be taken with treatment?

Moderate alcohol does not reduce antibiotic effect. Large amounts can worsen stomach upset or interact with other medicines. Stay hydrated, eat balanced meals, and take doxycycline with food to limit nausea.
